Paul van Heerwaarden
Chief Executive Officer

Paul was appointed CEO of Bega Cheese in 2016 following four years as General Manager Sales and Marketing.  Prior to that he was with Tatura Milk Industries for three years, initially in the role of Chief Financial Officer and then Executive General Manager.  He has over 25 years experience in agribusiness having worked in senior financial and management positions in Australia and internationally with several agribusinesses including Cargill and Ridley AgriProducts.  Paul has an MBA from Melbourne Business School, a Bachelor of Business (Accounting), RMIT, is a CPA and in 2014 completed the Advance Management program at Harvard Business School.

Matthieu Arguillere
General Manager – Bionutrients

Matthieu joined Bega Cheese Limited in June 2015 as General Manager of the Bega Bio-Nutrients business having spent the previous ten years with the French dairy company Ingredia S.A. where he held executive sales roles before being appointed Chief Executive Officer.  During his time with Ingredia Matthieu guided the company strategy to a significant focus on nutritional ingredients.

Matthieu holds a degree in Food Science from AgroparisTech (Paris Institute of Technology for Life, Food and Environmental Sciences). Prior to joining Ingredia Matthieu was the Technical Director and Managing Director of French company Naturex S.A., a leading company in the food and health industry.

Garth Buttimore
General Manager Manufacturing Services

Garth is the General Manager – Manufacturing Services and has responsibility for the Manufacturing, Technical (Quality, Safety, Environment) and  Supply Chain functions across the business. With an extensive background in Food manufacturing and in particular Dairy, primary processing and consumer packaged goods, Garth has held senior roles in Manufacturing, Research & Development, Quality and Sales across a number of significant private and public Australian and New Zealand food businesses.

Garth’s focus is on ensuring a competitive supply chain from raw material to customer delivery, building strong internal systems that deliver superior and sustainable Safety, Quality and Environmental  outcomes for the business, its people, customers and consumers. Garth joined Bega Cheese in December 2011 and holds a Diploma in Dairy technology.

Warren Climo
General Manager  – Supplier Services & Milk Supply

Warren recently moved to this role after over 13 years in California working for Hilmar Cheese Company and prior to that in the New Zealand dairy industry. Born and raised on a dairy farm, Warren attended Massey University obtaining a degree in Agricultural Science. He joined the dairy industry in 1987 with Lactose New Zealand, a NZ Dairy Board subsidiary,  and has continued in the industry ever since.

Warren has worked in multiple roles and has broad experience across the industry from on-farm use of feed by-products,  environmental management, quality management, sales and market development including senior management roles with Lactose New Zealand and Hilmar Cheese Company.

Colin Griffin
Chief Financial Officer
Company Secretary

Colin was born in the town of Bega and completed a BA (Accounting) in 1985 and after which he obtained his Chartered Accountant membership in 1998. With a background in auditing and corporate advisory at KPMG, Colin joined the Bega Cheese team as Finance Manager and Company Secretary in 1993. With 23 years’ experience in the dairy industry, Colin is a pivotal contributor to the strategic and corporate development of Bega Cheese. He leads the Group finance team and is responsible for finance, treasury, administration information technology and legal affairs. He is a Director of Tatura Milk Industries and Capitol Chilled Foods.

Mark McDonald
General Manager – Ingredients

Mark joined Bega Cheese Limited in August 2016 as General Manager of Ingredients, and is responsible for the business unit strategy and commercial performance delivery covering milk supply relationships, ingredients development, innovation and manufacture, sales delivery and customer relationships. Mark is a globally focussed commercial leader, with extensive food and beverage general management and executive experience spanning more than 20 years, previously with Manassen Foods, Murray Goulburn, National Foods / Lion. Experience includes leading businesses and end to end supply chain, procurement and operations functions focussed on growth and innovation, people leadership and development, global best practice, operational excellence and continuous improvement delivering value creating customer outcomes. Mark has Australian and International Ingredients, Commodity and FMCG experience particularly in dairy and also including fresh and dried fruit, baking and deli/dried grocery. Mark holds a Bachelor of Economics Degree and is a Certified Practicing Accountant and has completed a Masters of Business Administration.

David McKinnon
General Manager – Human Resources

David McKinnon is the General Manager Human Resources, and has responsibility for Human Resources strategy development and execution throughout the Company. Increasing the capability of all leaders within the Company, the performance of employees, and increasing talent are the key focuses of David’s Human Resources leadership. He is a firm believer that to maximise employee’s contribution at work, employees need role clarity and good leadership.
David joined Bega Cheese in April 2012, and has previously held senior Human Resources leadership roles with Orica and Mobil Oil Australia.

Hamish Reid
General Manager – Nutritionals

Hamish was appointed General Manager – Nutritionals in July 2016.  Prior to that he was Business Manager – Nutritionals for six years at Tatura Milk Industries contributing to the significant growth of the business over that period. Previously Hamish worked in senior marketing and innovation roles with Fonterra in Asia, the Middle East and New Zealand.  Hamish has a MSc from Canterbury University a Diploma in Dairy Science and Technology from Massey University, has completed the Stanford Executive Program and has graduated from the Australian Institute of Company Directors.  Hamish currently sits on the board of the Infant Nutrition Council of Australia and New Zealand.

Grattan Smith
General Manager – Project one

Grattan joined Bega Cheese in 1997 and has over 30 years of industry experience in logistics and supply chain including retail, manufacturing and third-party warehousing and distribution.  As a member of the Executive Team he is  accountable for delivery of the business transformation program through implementation of a single Enterprise Resource Planning solution across the whole Bega Cheese Group to meet business objectives and strategic outcomes for the foreseeable future. Formerly General Manager Supply Chain, accountable for supply chain planning and execution for the Bega Cheese group, including S&OP, procurement, production scheduling, inventory management, transport, warehousing and logistics supported by a team of 120 people across 6 manufacturing sites. Grattan holds a Bachelor of Business from the Western Sydney University has completed the General Manager Program at the Australian Graduate School of Management, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors course.
